With everything that’s been going on, the bright spot in my week was BEA! It’s always been in NYC so when I heard it would be in Chicago this year, I knew I had to go. Then I found out there was a blogger’s conference! I couldn’t take off more than a day of work so I decided to go to the conference and hope there would be giveaways. I wasn’t disappointed!

This was my first BEA and I walked through the doors and this is what I saw. I didn’t want to leave.

Bout of Books 16 – Day 2

The calendar says it’s May but Chicago weather can’t make up it’s mind which season we’re in. This weekend it felt like summer. We even got the kids in their swim suits and let them play with the hose. Then the temperature dropped 20 degrees and started to rain so the boots and sweaters had to be dragged out again.

It’s not winter anymore but I kinda feel like that. (Have I mentioned how much I love this comic?? It gets me.)

The Personal and the Political

Today was the first day of the farmer’s market, which for me, marks the real first day of spring. That’s when flowers are in bloom, there are little sprouts of basil, and bundles of asparagus. We had a brief thunderstorm in the morning and I thought the day was ruined. But then, just as we finished breakfast, the clouds broke and then sun came out. My kids love stomping around in their rain boots so it didn’t take much convincing. My daughter got to shop for flowers, my son got to watch the trains go by, and I got my asparagus.

A year later…

I really hate the saying “Everything happens for a reason” but this week was really shitty. I spent hours, days, thinking it over, over-analyzing, raging, ranting. My husband talked me down off the ledge and back on solid ground and I started to wonder if certain things were happening and other things were falling into place for a …reason. Ugh. Vague. I know. But the important thing is that I’ve decided it’s time for me to DO something different. I’ve been reading and writing in a vacuum and it’s not enough. I need to step outside of my comfort zone. So the first step is coming back to this blog and there isn’t a better reason than BOUT OF BOOKS!
